Google: The Spammy Queries To Get Less Spammy

There is a saying that Tim Mayer, formerly from Yahoo, brought to the SEO conferences that has been used for probably ten years now. He said, "don't bring a sword to a gun fight," when someone was talking about how some search results for very shady business areas were spamming but he was doing white hat SEO techniques and was getting no where.

Truth is, that is how it works. In most of the very shady business areas, like payday loans, some classifications of drugs, pornography - the SEO space is much more competitive and honestly ruthless. But Google is planning on changing the game there by focusing a bit more on making the search results for spammy queries, less spammy.

Matt Cutts said in his video at about 2 minutes and 30 seconds in about these types of queries. This is part of our ongoing coverage of ten Google SEO changes.

It’s kind of interesting. We get a lot of great feedback from outside of Google. For example, there were people complaining about searches like “payday loans” on Google.co.uk. So we have two different changes that try to tackle those kinds of queries in a couple different ways. We can’t get into too much detail about exactly how they work, but I’m kind of excited that we’re going from having just general queries be a little more cleaned to going to some of these areas that have traditionally been a little more spammy including, for example, some more pornographic queries. And some of these changes might have a little bit more of an impact in those kinds of areas that are a little more contested by various spammers and that sort of thing.
So it will be interesting to see what type of impact this makes in the more spammy side of the SEO world.
